North Side Federal Savings, the bank that's been at Foster & Clark for 75 years, will be demolishing the building behind it at 1475 W Foster to make way for a parking lot. During bank hours it'll be for customers only, but in the evenings it'll be available for the public.
What do you think? Do we need more parking lots in the neighborhood?
Okay, so I've a bunch of recyclable goods that I keep in my back sun porch, and my roommate has always been the one to dispose of the goods when the pile fills. This weekend it's my turn. I'm kind of excited. Ya know, doing my part n' all.
So I googled "chicago recycle" to see my option. Enter "Chicago Recycling Coalition" stage left.
Find out exactly what you can recycle in Chicago, and where you can drop off these goods! In Aville's case, our drop-off is located right here...
Do your part. Not only is our lovely Midsommarfest the green part of our hood.
Andersonville Arts Weekend is looking for local talent to showcase their work at various businesses around the 'hood. The event is October 3rd to 8th. Sign up and more info here. Applications are due by August 8th.
Our favorite little coffee shop in the whole wide world is looking to hire some baristas and barista supervisors. Check the details here.
Times are tough for some folks and unfortunately for some that means giving up their pets. :-(
ABC7 had a nice piece last night about the South Suburban Humane Society down in Chicago Heights. They've seen almost double the amount of pets being given up due to lost jobs, high gas prices and expensive everything.
If you're not looking to adopt you can still help out. Locally in Andersonville/Uptown there's the Tree House Animal Shelter at 1212 W Carmen which has a Pet Food Pantry program that helps out low-income individuals with food if needed. They'll take almost any type of food so next time you swing by the pet store and have a few extra bucks pick up a second bag and drop it off. Some little kitty in the 'hood will thank you.

Saturday was gorgeous for Midsommarfest. Here are some photos we took throughout the day.
On to day 2!
What's being touted as Chicago's greenest festival kicks off in under 24 hours. Andersonville Midsommarfest runs from 11:00am to 10:00pm on Saturday and Sunday. We'll be out and about all weekend eating mini burgers from Hamburger Mary's, gelato from Pasticceria Natalina, sipping cocktails at places like Big Jones or In Fine Spirits, and dancing at the handful of music stages. Check back here for photos of the event and if you happen to bump into one of us feel free to say hi.
Tonight's your last chance to catch Regina Upright, Merdedes and Kathryn Cole in Mary's Attic. Paper Dolls is making way for the Lipstick Club, a weekly ladies night featuring music spun by DJ Shoshana and $3 Lites. Stick around after tonight's show for a little preview of the Club.
Not so fast boys, the ladies aren't giving up the hood that easily. For the first time in its 12 year history the 2008 Dyke March will take place outside of Andersonville. In an effort to mobilize communities across the city the 2008 March will take place in Pilsen on June 28th.
If you're planning on marching meet up at 1800 South Halsted (Chicago Community Bank Park) at 1:00pm. The March begins at 2:30pm and travels down 18th street to rally at Harrison Park (1824 S. Wood).
Help show your support of the LGBT community and venture down to Pilsen for the afternoon.
Time to start planning your Midsommarfest events. Click here for a list of all the bands and events going on at the four stages.
Keep an eye out for the A-Ville crew Saturday night at Mucca Pazza and on Sunday during 16 Candles.
